John Wayne on the Bayou?
(CNN) -- New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin calls Lt. Gen. Russel Honore a "John Wayne dude" who can "get some stuff done."
Hey guys...Read this article earlier today. The guy it speaks about is a rather intense individual. At first I cracked a smile. It is like they brought in Rambo to get things done. I mean, how would you like to be on this guy's bad side??
See, these were my first thoughts. Then I began to think about it. This general is referred to as a "John Wayne dude" with an inner chuckle ultimately because he is radical. He is different than the average idiot who sits on his hands and watches the world burn. He puts his money where his mouth is.
The life of a true leader is a lonely one. There will always be critics. You live in a fish bowl. The majority of people in your life will, deep down, feel good when you fail because it makes them feel better about failing to attempt to do the things you have done and failed at 10 times over.
I love the quote (well, I love A LOT of quotes) during the opening of Braveheart: "History was written by those who killed heroes." We need more Christian heroes.
We need more "John Wayne dudes" who are willing to crucify their reputations of normalcy and live the "unnatural" epic that they were created for. CT Studd, a John Wayne dude of his era, provides us with an example of the heart of a hero in one quote:
"Some wish to live within the sound of chapel bell. As for me, I will set up a rescue shop within a yard of hell."
Reputations, fish bowls, comforts, normalcies, appearances, earthly pursuits, lustful passions, plans, the silent chuckles and insecurities of our audiences... BE CRUCIFIED! We need to "get some stuff done." If not now, then when? If not me, then who??
