Shadows and Substance

"These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ" (Colossians 2:17, ESV).

"I believe in Christ as I believe in the sun; not because I can see it, but because by it I can see everything else" (C.S. Lewis).

"For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God" (1 Corinthians 1:18, ESV).

"The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned" (1 Corinthians 2:14, ESV).

"as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal" (2 Corinthians 4:18, ESV).

"I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him" (Jesus Christ, John 14:6-7).

"I and the Father are one" (Jesus Christ, John 10:30).

"For God, who said, 'Let light shine out of darkness,' has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ" (2 Corinthians 4:6).

Was Jesus Christ who He claimed to be? Logically speaking, He could be only one of the following descriptions:

Liar, Lunatic, or what He claimed to be.

If He was who He claimed to be, how does that apply to your view of the world and yourself?

Good question, it's one we ask in our own community. Changes things, doesn't it?

Nice to make your aquaintance! :-)

Ditto...

Where do emotions come from? Why do we have them? What use do they have?

I believe they allow for the appreciation of true beauty in all its capacities. It allows for a genuine experience of true beauty. I have also heard it put that emotions are the heart speaking. Emotions let us know when a given reality registers within our personhood. Where as the 5 senses give us objective experiences of the world around us, emotions involve our reaction to them. However, beauty cannot be sensed. It can only be felt. Beauty must be experienced within. You can see, touch, taste, hear, and smell the environment and experiences around you. Yet how do you know if they are beautiful to you or not? Answer: the presence of emotions.

I read an interesting quote on a friend's fridge:

"Love is friendship on fire."

A lot more goes into love than a friendship on fire. True love brings the Light to the stained glass window. However, within the realm of romance, this quote does stake a good 1-line definition.
